Syd Slacks and his Elastic Waist Band is the alter ego/side project of vocalist John Boyle and Rich Fair aka Dick Trousers.
It's a chance for the frontman, who labors by day as the king of the frozen foods department at Quincy's Stop & Shop, to indulge his inner lounge lizard, as well as to tackle a wide range of pop songs new and old.

Fans of Syd Slacks would agree that giving Boyle a chance to ham it up, even more than he does in that funk-rock septet, is rather like giving Groucho Marx an abundance of straight lines. Almost too much fun, in other words.
Syd Slacks appears before rabid fans, who spent as much time trying to dance to the panoply of tunes as they did laughing at the various versions. Syd Slacks has been performing around the area for about three years now, with several lineup shifts, but the core has always been Boyle and drummer Dick Trouser, aka Rich Fair of Quincy. The band seeks to adopt stage names reflecting clothing, which is how Dorchester guitarist Tom Baker becomes Tommy Trunks.

" Back N Slacks"
On the "Back N Slacks" CD, Boyle delivers a gloriously over-the-top rendition of Elton John's "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," and then unveils a lounge-themed, finger-popping take on AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long." The Sinatra tune, "Fly Me To the Moon," is done almost straight, in the kind of Rat Pack version the boys would've approved. But then there's a skewed rendition of "Suspicious Minds" where the small group obviously can't approximate the grandeur of Elvis Presley's version, but tries to make up for it with big gestures in a truly tacky arrangement.
